  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

For the Dough:

  • 1 cup water
  • 2 ½ tablespoons granulated sugar
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

For Frying:

  • Oil for frying (about 2 ½ inches deep in a deep-fryer or pot)

Instructions

1. Prepare the Cinnamon-Sugar Coating:

  • Mix ½ cup sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon in a bowl or paper bag. Set aside.

2. Make the Dough:

  • In a saucepan, combine water, sugar, salt, and vegetable oil.
  • Bring to a boil, then remove from heat.
  • Add all-purpose flour and stir until a dough ball forms.

3. Shape & Fry:

  • Let dough cool for 5-10 minutes.
  • Roll dough into balls (about walnut-sized).
  • Heat oil to 375°F (190°C) and fry 3-4 dough balls at a time until golden brown.

4. Coat & Serve:

  • Roll hot poppers in the cinnamon-sugar mixture.
  • Serve while warm, ideally with dipping sauces.

Notes

  • To keep the poppers warm before serving, place them in a low oven set to 200°F (90°C).
  • For extra crispiness, re-coat the poppers with cinnamon sugar just before serving.
  • To store, keep in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 24 hours or refrigerate for up to 3 days.
